Step ONE -You need to know if your website in indexed correctly.

By doing the following:

1)      Open your website log file

2)      Find out what keywords were entered to get to your site

You will be surprised to find out that a website about herbs to improve memory …etc was classified under computer memory and accessories. Amazing how Anchor text may help a website get indexed.

3)      Try to find what the irrelevant keywords are; they are the ones harming not only your ranking but being indexed wrong.

Step Two- Check out your HTML(XHTML) code

1) Check the Title and description of your website. Are they any relevant to the text in your website “your index page at least?

Remember    Only very big & known websites put their name as the title. If your website is not known to the average Joe, you may want to ad your product or services description in your title: ssshhh” it costs $3000 or more to do this nowadays! Unless you are paying for pay per click and you are rich” and add a longer description in your Meta description

2) Did a Seo rookie over stuff your website with keywords.

Step Three – Find out if you have hidden text

Very Easy “Click CTRL – A” Highlight the entire page, if you see some hidden text “

Sometimes hidden article – I have seen companies advertise that.

What that means to you is that your website could De-listed or De-Indexed (black listed)

The reason is using non ethical SEO practices that violate Google guidelines.

At this point you need an SEO Surgeon that will clean up your website from the bad stuff.

3)      Do you have any H1-H2 Tags?

If you don’t have heading in your website. Ask your Tech peeps to add them for you

4)      Are you still using HTML or you have XHTML or similar

If your code says HTML on the very top of the code source and you don’t see something like this

“XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN” http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1

Again, you need to contact your web development company to get your website updated “only the code”

You will ask me why XHTML vs. HTML?

My answer is simple – Easy and more simple code to be red by Google bot and yahoo slurp

(Web spiders- That is what collect information from billions of websites)

So. If your code is long and complicated, spiders may not index your entire page

Step four: Bad Neighborhoods (it takes 4-6 months to recover)

If your site was submitted to FFA links or link Farms, which may also be the problem.

How do you know?

One of the symptoms: getting tons of irrelevant emails

Solution: Either wait or compensate with other credible links or keyword thyme

Step Four: Is your website listed in a major web directory like yahoo – Dmoz or Google?

Submit your site to DMOZ (good luck waiting for them) if you can’t wait then use yahoo directory

It does not cost much, but it works!! Trust me. Do not underestimate yahoo traffic and conversions.

It is not just yahoo, it is also ALL THE WEB and smaller search engines will pick up your site.

 Step Five:  Do u have flash or many scripts in your website?

If yes, don’t ask why your website in not indexed or even found online.
